BPM maturity requires managed
change

[ Johannesburg, 31 August 2009 ] - Process maturity should be foundational to
applying, sustaining and continuously leveraging off Lean Six Sigma. So said
Tony Gardiner, organisational process development manager at Nedbank, in his
keynote at the ITWeb BPM Summit and Awards held at Montecasino, in Fourways,
last week.
Based on a business process maturity model, Gardiner discussed the various
levels of BPM maturity that an organisation should strive to achieve. “To
achieve maturity growth the organisation needs to change the way it does
things,” he advised.
At the lowest level of BPM maturity, explained Gardiner, organisations focus on
simply becoming a managed organisation; which it achieves through work unit
management. At this level organisations need to overcome inconsistent
management, including defects, overruns and ad hoc methods, he added.

Developing the BPM business case

[ Johannesburg, 26 August 2009 ] - Business process management (BPM) is
something everybody buys into on a conceptual level; however, when it comes to
implementing the solution, companies are hesitant.
This is because the decision-makers are business executives who are not
primarily concerned with business processes, according to Julian Labuschagne,
associate director at PWC Advisory SA. Labuschagne spoke on the business
benefits of BPM at the ITWeb BPM Summit and Awards event, held at Montecasino in
Johannesburg, yesterday.
“For BPM to succeed, we need to develop a business model that speaks to the
business executives,” explained Labuschagne. He advised companies to address the
following questions: Why does the company want this? What are the alternatives?
And, where does the company start?

Companies rewarded for BPM
excellence

[ Johannesburg, 26 August 2009 ] - Zurich SA/Ovations walked away with the Grand
Prix Award for BPM Excellence, sponsored by K2, at the ITWeb BPM awards event
held in Johannesburg last night.
It was one of three companies ITWeb presented with excellence awards for their
achievements in business process management (BPM) project implementation and
success.
The award was given to Zurich SA/Ovations for the enhancement of Zurich SA's BPM
environment and the replacement of its software solution. This resulted in
process improvements and greater management visibility and capability in the
company environment, bringing centralised processes, increased flexibility,
reduced costs and improved efficiencies.
