IFS South Africa's growth over the last 12 months in the enterprise software sector has exceeded all projections and industry norms and put the company on a rapid expansion path with plans to address new markets.
According to Paul Whalley, managing director of IFS SA, local growth has outstripped the record breaking global performance of its Swedish-based parent company, which is currently recognised as the fastest growing software vendor in its field.
"Having only opened our doors in SA some 18 months ago, we might have been a little conservative in our projections for the current year, but I don't believe anyone could have forecast our exceptional growth to date," says Whalley.
"This year has been marked by successes in the telecomms sector both in SA, neighbouring countries and as far afield as Nigeria. Obviously, we're having to grow internally as a company and expand our partner programme, to meet this and future business."
The company has expanded its Gauteng-based head office staff complement to 15. In addition, it has established key business relationships with companies like IBM and Iocore and expanded the number of specialist consultants on key projects.
"As the need for support staff grows, we expect the team to exceed 20 by the end of the year, though we can always call on overseas IFS resources to meet unexpected demands in the meantime," says Whalley.
Having established a strong presence in the telecoms market over the past year, IFS is now focusing on the manufacturing sector and is skilling up accordingly with specialist business consultants to address this market, which is a core IFS business internationally.
While IFS' component-based, building block, approach to software delivery and the resultant cost effectiveness and rapid implementation are seen as critical aspects of the company's market success to date, the positioning of its products as next-generation solution enablers has also contributed to its growth both locally and internationally as companies seek to future-proof their businesses and IT operations.
"Many enterprise software vendors are still locked into inward-looking ERP (enterprise resource planning) solutions and are incapable of providing the integration and links necessary to go beyond the enterprise and into the supply chain.
"The market need today is for ERP II solutions - solutions with the flexibility to extend easily and cost effectively to meet future e-business needs. This is where our leadership in component-based software comes to the fore," says Whalley.
