InformationWeek names CA's Unicenter one of 10 "most important products of the '90s"
COMPUTER ASSOCIATES AFRICA
PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY COMPUTER ASSOCIATES AFRICA

Unicenter only enterprise management solution awarded influential product of the decade

[ 6 January 2000 ] - As further testament that Computer Associates International, Inc.'s (CA) Unicenter is the de facto standard for enterprise management, CA today announced that InformationWeek (IW), a weekly information technology publication, has named Unicenter one of the 10 "Most Important Products of the '90s." Unicenter is the only enterprise management solution that appears on IW's list, which named the most significant and influential computer technologies of the decade.

In naming Unicenter one of the "Most Important Products," several specific product benefits were acknowledged, including integration of CA's 3-D visualization technology as well as Neugents, which predicts system problems before they occur, into enterprise computing management. Neugents can also predict business opportunities and enable applications to not only analyze conditions in business markets, but to predict changes in those conditions and suggest courses of action.

"Uptime and availability are no longer just goals of business--they are necessities," said IW editor Stephanie Stahl. "The ability to manage the enterprise as well as have the capacity to anticipate and prevent problems is critical in the course of everyday business. For these reasons, we chose Unicenter as one of the most important products of the decade." According to IW, Unicenter unifies a disparate set of products and processes, providing a comprehensive view of IT systems. The publication noted that CA strengthened Unicenter in 1997 with the introduction of Unicenter TNG, which features an unparalleled object-oriented and three-dimensional Real World Interface. In 1998, CA announced Unicenter TND, introducing Neugents technology and further extending the concept of management based in the time dimension.

This honor is the latest in a series of editorial accolades for CA's flagship product. In 1999, Unicenter TNG received top honors in IDG's inaugural Solutions Integrator SI Impact Awards program. VARBusiness magazine ranked Unicenter TNG first in systems management software in 1998. It also received Network magazine's 1998 Product of the Year, DBMS magazine's Readers' Choice award and Datamation's Best Systems Management Software.

"We are very happy to receive this prestigious honor and believe this award validates the fact that Unicenter TNG is the most powerful and comprehensive enterprise management solution available, setting it apart from competitive offerings," said Nigel Turner, CA senior vice president of product strategy. "CA is a pioneer in delivering solutions that do more than just address the needs of users today. Through the use of innovative technologies such as Neugents, we are helping our clients achieve future success."
