Lexmark opens a new gateway to the world of art with www.print-art.com!
LEXMARK INTERNATIONAL SA
PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY CAMEO CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
[ 10 January 2001 ] - Venture Computer, the sole Southern African distributor for Lexmark International today announced that Lexmark had developed a new Website that is a unique Internet gateway to the world of art. The print-art.com website features an exclusive art search engine, based on the innovative semantic analysis solution developed by the European software company Arisem, as well as pages on the partnership between Lexmark and the French Réunion des musées nationaux (RMN).

This unique mix between technology and art is a striking example of Lexmark's commitment to using its resources to sustain interest in today's art. Lexmark has been an avid supporter of art with its numerous ventures in the world of art. The exclusive partnership between Lexmark and RMN was created to widely promote the use of art. The new print-art.com site is a further step for Lexmark to increase art awareness and to combine art with technology.

"Lexmark naturally wanted to create a website that is linked to our passion for printing ideas," said Philippe Kalmbach, manager of sales and operations, Consumer Printer Division, Lexmark Europe. "The print-art.com site is a real information highway for users wanting to find information on art. For Lexmark, it was an appealing way of demonstrating the superior quality of its high-resolution printers by bringing together art with the power of images. "

Browsing 6,000 art sites!

The new search engine references and classifies more than 6,000 art-related websites every week and classifies them by painters, subjects, exhibitions or schools of art. The portal also delivers practical information such as how to buy museum tickets or art supplies, where to get art training or have your painting framed. A real gateway to finding art on the web, only the most pertinent and reliable art-related information available on the net will be featured on the print-art.com site.

A perfect learning tool

The new website will especially benefit the education sector. A perfect tool for both students and educators around the world as it provides them with only direct matches to art- related Websites and subjects.

Effortless art printing from the net

Printing search results off the site is effortless, thanks to Lexmark's technological expertise. The print-art.com website opens doors to discovering art on the web and highlights the importance of new technologies in bringing culture and art to every home and every person.

Using up-to-the-minute technology

Print-art.com users can obtain the most pertinent and useful search results, thanks to the innovative semantic technology provided by Arisem. The software automatically analyses and classifies content through semantic analysis. To provide accurate results on each request and classify them accordingly, the solution not only returns web pages where there is a direct match but also if there is a nearby concept. For example, a search on "impressionism" will return results where the words "impressionism", "impressionist" or "impressionist painter" are mentioned. It will also return pages talking about painters such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley or Paul Cézanne and pages talking about juxtaposed colours, fragmented strokes or the Salon des Refusés that took place.
