Efficient business transactions require close collaboration between employees, partners and customers. However, opening the door to corporate information assets is fraught with risk: viruses, theft, denial-of-service attacks, and even poorly implemented systems put the integrity of IT infrastructure in jeopardy. But more dangerous than all these threats is the belief that system outage won't bring your business down.
That's according to Tarun Pranjivan, security ambassador for Sun Microsystems SA, who notes that with the increased prevalence and sophistication of Internet attacks, organisations of all sizes cannot take business continuance for granted. "With its understanding of the role that security plays in achieving data centre-grade business continuance, Sun has never regarded security as an afterthought; security is built into everything we make and Sun services are geared to mitigating risk for our customers," he explains. Says Pranjivan: "In the current business climate, reducing IT infrastructure risk is becoming an imperative. Responsibility for business continuity today is a boardroom issue - security breaches and resultant downtime can cost executives their jobs. More than that, ineffective security can cost businesses directly in terms of impacted sales or production, and indirectly through damage to reputation, destroying shareholder value." Sun Microsystems SA is therefore providing South African businesses which are serious about security with a free guide that will give them insight into the policies, procedures and strategies that are indispensable in ensuring robust mitigation of Internet and e-mail-borne threats. In addition, Sun complements its 'secure by design' products with a full range of service offerings, including Sun Security - Professional Services; Security Assessment Services, Security Policy Services and Sun Education and Training.
